VIII. Promotion of Popular Rituals and Implementation of Transitional
Justice

In order to promote the virtue of filial piety and construct a harmonious society, the Filial Piety
Award has been conducted annually since 2007. To emphasize the value of freedom of speech, the

MOI suggested that April 7 be “Freedom of Speech Memorial Day,” which has since become a nation-
al memorial day approved by the Executive Yuan. The MOI will hold a joint ceremony with relevant gov-
ernment agencies on that date to advocate the meaning of freedom of speech and to further entrench
democracy in Taiwan. Furthermore, the MOI will remove authoritarian symbols, reflect on the country's

history, and establish the Restoration of Victim's Rights Infringed by Wrongful Acts of the State During
the Period of Authoritarian Rule Foundation to implement transitional justice.
