Ⅰ. Application for
construction permits
Throughout Taiwan-Fuchien Area of the Republic of China, a total of 11,662 construction permits
were issued in the first half, 2001, down 26.1% and 15% respectively from what
issued in the first and second halves of the preceding year. The total floor area covered in the
issued permits came to 11.134 million M2, in the
continual growth in the red at -45.3% and -24% respectively compared with what
issued in the first and second halves of the preceding year.
Among permit
issued in the first half, 2001, housing construction permit ranked the highest,
covering 2.567 million M2 or at 23.1% of
grand total in floor area; followed by factory construction permits, 2.468
million M2 or 22.2% of the
total; and then store (including store/residential combinations) construction
permits, 1.184 million M2 in total area at
10.6% of the total.
The total floor
area for construction permits in other categories came to 2.73 million M2, at 24.5% of the total, mainly in Taichung, Yunlin
County and Tainan City, at 19.4%, 13.6% and 10.7% respectively. By purposes, construction permits for
those categories were mainly for use of air-raid shelters, parking lots,
refueling stations, temples, landfills and the like.
Compared with the
second half, 2000, the housing construction permits numbered 5,715, down
16.4%. The total floor area came
to 2.567 million M2, down 24.2%. A total of 1,944 construction permits
were issued for store (including store/residential combinations), dropping
21.8%, with 1.184 million M2 total floor
area, decreasing 53.5%. Factory
construction permits numbered 782, dropping 11%, with total floor area coming
to 2.468 million M2, down 8.9%. Office construction permits came to 257
in number, down 16.8%, with total floor area coming to 767,000 M2, dwindling 32.1%. In terms of the total floor area, store and office showed
the greatest decreases.
In terms of
architectural structures, the RC floor area totaled 6.924 million M2 as the largest ratio at 62.2%. SRC floor area came as the second at
2.339 million M2 at 21%.
Compared with the second half, 2000, RC floor area came down by 3.6%
while SRC floor area up by 2.3%.
By regions, the total floor area covered in the construction
permits issued in the first half 2001 were in minus growth except Hsinchu City,
Yunlin County and Pingtung County. Hsinchu City, in particular, grew as
significantly as 107.2% due primarily to lots of the total floor area of
construction permits issued for factories.
Ⅱ. Application for
occupancy permits
In the Taiwan-Fuchien Area, a total of 15,009 occupancy permits were issued in the
first half, 2001, down 15.2% and 4.7% respectively from what issued in the
first and second halves of 2000.
The total floor area covered in the issued permits came to 15.882
million M2, growing -8.3% and –10.2%
respectively amidst the continual growth in the red compared with what issued
in the first and second halves of the preceding year.
Covered in the
occupancy permits issued in the first half, 2001, housing occupancy permits
ranked first, 4.269 million M2 in area and
26.9% of the total. Factory
construction permits came out next at 3.558 million M2 and 22.4% of the
total.
In a comparison
with the second half, 2000, the occupancy permits were 7,395 in number, growing
9%; 4.269 million M2 in floor area,
dropping 15.8%. Factory occupancy
permits numbered 920, down 2.7%; 3.558 million M2 in total floor
area, up by 7.8%. The total
occupancy permits issued for store (including store/ residential combinations)
totaled 3,008 cases in number, up by 11.4%; 2.171 million M2 in total floor area, a 39.1% decrease. Office occupancy permits came to 328
cases in number, dropping 17%, with total floor area coming to 1.185 million M2 in floor area, dropping 7.4%. In terms of the total floor area,
factories registered as the only category growing up while store and residence
recorded the highest and second highest decreases.
By structural
categories, RC structures came to 11.464 million M2 ranked the top
at 72.2%; followed by SRC structure at 2.471 million M2 at 15.6%; steel
frameworks further next at 893,000 M2 or 5.6%. Among them, RC structures dropped 5.1%
from the second half, 2000 while SRC grew 2.5% from the same period.
Nine regions,
i.e., Hsinchu County, Taichung County, Nantou County, Yunlin County, Tainan
County, Taitung County, Hualien County, Keelung City and Chiayi City grew up
while all other regions came down.
Nantou County and Yunlin County ranked first and second in terms of the
total floor area in occupancy permits issued.
Ⅲ. Conclusions
The aforementioned
figures indicate that in the year 2001, the construction permits were
continually in decrease, in particular stores and offices as the highest and
second highest. SRC structures
were continually on the rise. The
occupancy permits showed a growth, though insignificant, compared with the
second half 2000 by number, while, but dropped as much as 10.2% in total floor
area. All other categories grew in
the red except factories which demonstrated a minor growth. The occupancy permits issued for
housing categories in Nantou County and Yunlin County ranked the highest and
second highest, due primarily to the catastrophic earthquake which hit hard the
areas in 1999.
